Accidental Rainmaker

1st December 2015 – 5.16 pm

Rainmaker, Camp Triggerfish. I am running with my Kelp Splatterscope, because of Triggerfish's nice, long stretches of open space, and the few vantage points looking across the water. A couple of charged shots gets me up to within shooting distance of the Rainmaker, and my team are right with me. We surge through the Rainmaker's shield seemingly without resistance.

I press forwards, squidding through our yellow ink, to try to catch any particularly reckless bad guys pressing to snatch the Rainmaker from us. I get to the platform spanning the water and become a kid, charging up a shot, looking for a squid coming over the top of the ramp on the other side. But my charger isn't charging, which is a bit odd.

My charger isn't charging because I am not carrying my charger any more. Instead of squidding around the Rainmaker, I managed to squid close enough to pick it up by accident. That's a little awkward, and I am taken somewhat by surprise. Still, I am no stranger to carrying the Rainmaker, and my instinct makes me squid backwards to our side of the platform to get my bearings.

Back on our side, I see that my teammates have been busy, inking their way down the side route towards the Rainmaker podium. I suppose they thought I was picking up the Rainmaker and that I would soon be following them. Well, I know the disappointment of inking a path for the Rainmaker and it not being used, and the yellow ink remains unbroken. I will not let the diligence of my teammates down, and I turn to squid along the path.

The inked path leads to the netting, where I have to revert to being a kid and walking. That's fine, and my squidding has let me catch up with my teammates, who themselves are working their way up the netting. One gets splatted from behind, but not ink comes my way. It could have been a mutual splatting. My focus remains ahead, where my other two teammates clear a path towards the podium. One blast from the Rainmaker, a bit more ink from a teammate, and I squid up to and on top of the podium to dunk the Rainmaker for a knockout victory!

The game lasted under a minute, making it one of the quickest games I've been a part of. My teammates did a great job of inking the path, and thankfully I regained my composure without too much delay after accidentally picking up the Rainmaker. One carry, and I dunked it.

  2. You are alive! Does that mean you will return to New Eden as well?

  3. Nothing planned! I'm still having plenty of fun being a kid and a squid.

  4. I'm glad to see you comment - I initially thought your blogging account might have been hacked! I'm not sure I would have been inclined to pick up a game called Splatoon if I saw it in a shop.

  5. I can't deny its family-friendly nature, particularly as Splatoon won the Children's Game BAFTA for 2015. So it goes for Nintendo games in general. Even so, it really is quite an elegant third-person shooter, with some brilliant graphic design, great gameplay features, and Nintendo's trademark attention to detail.

  6. Funny, I stopped playing WiiU after starting Eve. Splatoon is still on my list of games I want to play.

  7. I have always loved your writing style! The thing is, if you write about games you play besides EVE, you might end up getting me to try them, which may or may not be good for me =]
