*Pft*

Cor, it wasn't even 9 am before I had induced a failure in some expensive electronic equipment during formal vibration testing. It took me longer to set-up the test and update the test log than it did to run the test. It's going to be a good day!

Summer jumper

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

With hot weather upon us now I am trying a new strategy to cope with the often stupidly cold office. I don't think I should be wrapping up warm to work in a normal office environment, but wearing a t-shirt seems out of the question when I get chills ...

Hostile office environmental conditions

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I'm probably a little too passive for my own good some of the time, perhaps even excusing it as tolerance on occasion. The aggressive air conditioning in this stupid open-plan office is one area that I have tolerated through lack of action for ages. The temperature in here ...

Reading between the lines

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

My boss comes to me this morning with some interesting hardware in-hand, and tells me that 'I have a little job for you, the best part being that it doesn't need any paperwork'. Hmm, I really should finish that draft report soon for the test I completed a while back.

Five minutes, two hours

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I had a five minute vibration test to perform yesterday. It's not long, but it keeps me occupied, and the set-up and configuration can take a bit of time. I spent about thirty minutes in the morning taking off a jig from the previous test from the shaker's ...

Firefox updated

'Pon my word, but my PC at work has been feeling awfully sluggish. It's not an old machine and has a decent enough amount of memory, so why it takes so long to launch Explorer or pauses for a couple of seconds to refresh the screen every now and ...

Window blinds

Monday, April 21st, 2008

The windows in the office area must have been cleaned over the weekend as all the blinds were fully raised when I got in this morning. It was quite a sight, no blinds obscuring the view from any of the windows. The office seemed to be bigger, more ...

Sense of humour failing

Monday, April 14th, 2008

It's funny, but someone repeatedly saying 'you've got to keep your sense of humour' has decidedly the opposite effect.

Off-site adventure

Friday, April 11th, 2008

I went to an off-site training seminar yesterday, on the basics of vibration shaker testing. It turned out to be a little too basic overall, but there were a few moments that were of interest, and I got to see the phallic student digs of Loughborough university again. To get ...
