I'm definitely an aggressive player, and this becomes fairly obvious in Rainmaker. I imagine my squidmates would prefer I occasionally wait for them to get ahead and splat the opponents or lay down a trail of ink. It would probably be a good idea too sometimes.
Thankfully, in this battle, my tactic of squidding ever forwards works. The other side kinda fritters away their opportunity to strike back, though.
The maps in rotation are Port Mackerel and Flounder Heights. Both rather different. I could use the Splatterscope on the Port, and a Tri-slosher at the heights, but we don't get to choose the map out of the two. I plump for the Tri-slosher to start with, the Nouveau version for the Seeker sub.
I think I contribute to this Rainmaker battle. Clearly, my squidmates do so much more, but when I catch up and press the opposition I like to think I distract them enough for my squidmates to ink their way to victory.
That was super-quick, and so is the next game: Eyes ahead in Rainmaker
Flounder Heights comes up as the second map, giving me positive vibes for the usefulness of my Tri-slosher Nouveau. The bucket certainly doesn't restrict my movement, and I'm quite happy with the speed I can squid. A quick dive past the Rainmaker and I can cause a nuisance.
The indiscriminate nature of the Tri-slosher's inking definitely comes in handy, but I think exploding the Rainmaker's shield next to the opponent's base is a bit more destructive.
An early lead is demolished quite convincingly in this Rainmaker battle on Camp Triggerfish. Thank goodness for the brave squids who stopped their lightning advance and then sacrificed themselves in the water to reset the Rainmaker.
We get close again, but it's not close enough. How can it be, without actually dunking the Rainmaker? I do what I think is best, which is to cover over the purple ink on our podium, just in case.
15-8 with a Splatterscope on Rainmaker? You wouldn't think that my Gamepad's low-battery light came on near the start of the game. Well, except for the excessive spinning of the camera when I try to get the power adapter plugged in between splats.
I'm glad Saltspray Rig has been fixed/adapted for Rainmaker, because it feels like a really fun and frantic level for this mode.
A pretty good Rainmaker battle for me, particularly using the Splatterscope. We make a couple of good pushes forward, and hold the centre fairly well.
When we have the lead, and the end of the game nears, a squidmate grabs the Rainmaker and heads backwards, no doubt to keep the Rainmaker away from our opponents. But he doesn't quite keep hold of it, and instead gives them a foothold deep in our territory.
Back to the Splatterscope for Rainmaker, a dubious move for me, and I clearly don't have an opening strategy for Saltspray Rig yet. But I do like grabbing hold of the Rainmaker! And riding the platforms with a charger is a silly amount of fun.
How did I sneak a splat under that sight screen, then miss the Rainmaker right in front of me? I'm not a consistent charger. Some excellent use of Splat Bombs, though, even if I say so myself.
Bonus fun: see if you can spot when I think I've picked up the Rainmaker, and see what point I realise I actually didn't. Hint: I may have climbed the podium with a little excitement in my squidy heart.
Okay, I don't make the best of starts, but I try to make amends by cutting off the other team's progress. And, okay, that doesn't go swimmingly either. But at least I'm there and trying. I have no idea where the others are.
Battling in the centre of the map still? They don't get splatted much, which explains why they don't respawn and chase the Rainmaker from our side. Maybe that was my blessing, getting splatted near the start. Not that it helped much.
Well played, yellow team. I'll take this opportunity to swap back from the Tri-slosher and give the Splatterscope another go.
Maybe the Splatterscope isn't the best choice of weapon for Rainmaker with Saltspray Rig and Camp Triggerfish in the map rotation. The vantage points could suit the Tri-slosher better, so I give that a go.
The bucket certainly helps on Saltspray Rig, with all the differences in levels. And if only I hadn't got snagged on that container! It feels like the Tri-slosher is working well, but I get splatted an awful lot. I am quite aggressive in Rainmaker, though.
It seems like I got more than five splats, but that's okay.
I'm pretty sure I've never played Rainmaker on Saltspray Rig before. I think there were problems with the map. Anyway, my inexperience probably shows, as I didn't take a minute to recon the map and its changes before plunging in, with my Splatterscope no less.
I think I did okay in the end. Not great, but not bad. I like the changes to the map too, breaking up the sight-lines to prevent chargers being too powerful, and adding new inkable paths to make the mode viable. It's all still a bit claustrophobic, which makes the battles pretty tense. I like it!
