Far from my best battle in Splat Zones, but I like to think that at least I made a good showing of myself. I feel I splatted a lot of ink around in the right places, even if my aim is still a bit dodgy.
A couple more losses, even after switching weapons to a Custom Dual Squelcher, makes me think I'm not going to be productive in Splat Zones this evening. It can't be long before I lose even my piddly A- ranking.
I'm not sure I helped too much in this Splat Zones battle, but I'll take the ranking points. I need them.
Well, I suppose I took out that Sprinkler. Not the Splash Wall, though. And I did give a morale-boosting 'Nice!' at the end. I'm sure that counts as contributing.
Just when I think I'm getting the hang of Splat Zones, it all starts going wrong. The opponents push forwards, get their specials charged, and I'm flushed out of a comfortable perch.
Not a bad result for me as a squid, but we perhaps could have kept the lead. Maybe I'm a tad rusty with my aim after two days of Splatfest Turf War.
The Dual Squelcher may have a good range, but it's not as good as a charger. In the right tentacles, a charger is a good suppression weapon, and these squids have the right tentacles.
And in the next battle, after a shaky start, I get to the top rank with a win! Sure, I only needed one more point in the end, but it wouldn't have felt so good had I got the two points for a loss.
As it is the final Rich or Fit Splatfest battle I've uploaded, here's a bonus battle for today.
On the one hand, I don't make a jump and plunge in to the water. On the other hand, I am evading bombs like a pro. On the gripping hand, I run headlong in to an Inkbrush, like an idiot.
This battle has it all! More to the point, this Splatfest has helped me appreciate how cool the Mahi-Mahi Resort map is. I think it's great!
A new lobby gets me a new squidmate to enjoy. Golo may not be that harmful, but he gets himself in to good positions and definitely causes a nuisance. I think I like him.
But the squids in the next battle are mostly newsquids, and I feel guilty for staying so close to their base for so long. I have to turn around and find some turf to ink instead of aggressively going for splats.
You have to give them the chance to enjoy spreading ink everywhere.
The battle felt closer than it turned out to be, even though it's still quite close, maybe because that Killian squid kept jumping me from out of nowhere.
He's an aptly named kid, that's for sure.
A disconnection before the next battle gives me the opportunity to change my equipment, so I swap back to the Dual Squelcher, which I find I really like now.
I use the long range to good use, as well as its Echolocator, although I still can't resist running headlong in to trouble, it seems.
So close to going 5-0 with the Splattershot Jr in this battle, but I step over a mine and can't get away in time.
Never mind, we're racking up the points for Team Money in the EU Splatfest!
Next I'm trying not to hassle newsquids.
I can only be so aggressive during Turf War battles, and once our team has pushed back the opposition enough I retrace my steps to find turf that is yet to be inked.
There's little point in frustrating newsquids. Everyone deserves to enjoy the battles.
Squids were super-keen to super-jump in this Splatfest battle, and other squids were just as keen to wait and welcome them with ink spraying.
I continue where I left off last night, with the Splattershot Jr. Its Bubbler should come in handy, and its ink efficiency is superb.
Flounder Heights is such a fun level! So many routes to go, so many walls that can be inked and climbed, giving loads of options for out-manoeuvring the opposition.
I make good use of the level and my Bubbler, and I find another Splatfest excellent companion in Cheapd.
Another dominating game in the EU Splatfest, with Ben and Steiner, plus a random squid that's changing each game now.
I leave them to it at the opponents' base when I realise we've got them cornered, and return to ink some of the turf we've bypassed. I think the others have it covered.
I don't really take any pleasure in keeping the other players pinned in their base, not in a game that I like to keep fun. It should be fun for others too. I realise that I am in instigator, pushing hard and early in to opponents' territory, but most of the time that doesn't work. It's more of a challenge than an objective.
Unsurprisingly, we take another strong victory. And although my tactics align with those of my squidmates, I have to wonder if perhaps having three really aggressive inklings on one team is perhaps the best option.
As if to press home this lesson to me, a couple of battles later we meet our match. Sure, the Splatterscope inkling is perhaps a little obsessive over strength upgrades, but I can't knock him for knowing his weapon and having devastating aim. I can't move without getting splatted. It is incredibly frustrating.
We're not just pinned back in our base, unable to make a move, but our opponents have weapons and skills that effectively prevent us even trying to make any positive move. So be it! I take steinar's lead and have a little squid party to relieve the tension. It works!
It's a Money vs Money battle in the Splatfest, so the colours change around for us.
Either the others aren't trying so hard, with nothing on the line for the Splatfest, or we are being a bit too aggressive in pushing forwards.
I think our team are gelling quite well. Ben and Steinar have been around for a few games with me now, and we're getting more victories than losses.
Moving on a couple of battles, Ben and Steinar are still with me, as is Pupsik. We all seem to be quite aggressive players, and push back the other team without respite.
It's probably a bit harsh to keep the opponents so close to their base, but it happens the other way around sometimes too. That's not really much of an excuse for making the game frustrating for other players, though.
