Keeping it purple in Splat Zones

28th August 2016 – 7.00 pm

I stick with the Splatterscope for now, thinking I can at least splash a lot of ink around the Splat Zones. Well, it doesn't look like I can face off against a fellow charger, not from the first encounter. Still, it was one of her squidmates sneaking up on me.

My squidmates are boss, pressing high up the territory and keeping the Splat Zones clear. I just need to add a bit of ink and we maintain control for a good long time.

When the green team regroup they also get the Splat Zones, but it's only for as long as it takes for my squidmates to respawn, it seems. Then I'm back in a battle with the other charger. She wins this encounter with better skill than I could ever muster. Good stuff.

When I find myself lacking a good option on our side of the Splat Zones, I manoeuvre around them. That actually works! I get a couple of splats and help reclaim the Zones for us. In the end, it's a comfortable victory.

Being good support in Splat Zones

28th August 2016 – 7.00 am

I still feel rubbish in S-Rank battles. I don't think that feeling will go away any time soon. But I have to keep trying, I suppose. And although I still can't aim for toffee, my Splatterscope can at least provide nice long lines of ink across the Splat Zones when required.

I have to give my team credit for keeping the other side away from being a threat to me. I merely sat at the back and provided some ink. Winning the battle was pretty much all them.

So it goes in S Rank.

Back to S Rank Tower Control

27th August 2016 – 7.00 pm

To say I didn't enjoy my time in S Rank before is to understate my mood somewhat. I'm back there now, having only briefly bounced down to A+, and I would like to stay positive. I hope this attitude lasts.

Although I feel out-classed again, I also feel like I am contributing. Sure, a couple of my shots couldn't be anything but lucky, I also get some good splats in. And some misses, but that's par for the course. And that dive in to the water was just a mis-time jump.

Watching that Splat Bomb Rush come over the wall at me made me realise that bombs can actually be thrown over that wall. This is good new information, and I make immediate use of it. Of course, my target knows that Killer Wails go through walls, and that I have nowhere to go. Oh well.

I still don't know how Inkzookas in most games and chargers in this and other games get some of their splats against me that they do. Latency is my only guess, but that's a bit frustrating.

At least the other team can't complain when I knock one of their chargers off our own perch. We get the win too, which is something, I suppose.

All over the place in Tower Control

27th August 2016 – 7.00 am

A pretty nifty start to this Tower Control battle for me. A couple of splats, albeit after a couple of misfires, and although I miss getting a triple-splat, getting rid of the opposing charger makes up for it, as well as providing a good opportunity for our team.

Sadly, I don't keep up this kind of efficiency, maybe partly because another charger usurps me from my perch. I go mobile, at least to save the two of us getting splatted, even if it's to my detriment overall. Still, we have a good lead, I can afford to get splatted a bit.

And despite my best efforts, I don't get to reclaim the tower in extra time for the victory. But it's a team game, so it's all good. The only problem now is that the win pushes me back up to S Rank. Oh well.

Stress relief in Turf War

26th August 2016 – 7.00 pm

I know I say I'm not a camper, but I also admit that I play aggressively. I find Bluefin Depot offers a good challenge for getting near the other team's base, as there is really only one route, and it is up an uninkable, unsquiddable grate. I like getting up there when I can.

It just so happens that this time, after splatting an Inkzooka along the way, the rest of my team follow me. And they stay there. I can't really say I blame them, as it seems like a good way to get splats and win Turf War, but I still prefer to set them free and have a chase.

Getting splatted gives me an excuse to go around inking all the turf we've missed, but I like to think I would have turned around at that point to do that anyway. But I go back when I run out of turf, because I can, and because I am relieving some tension from recent Ranked battles. It's almost like a Ranked battle, in fact, with every inkling crushed together like that.

We win, of course. Sorry about that, other team. I try to do the right thing, but sometimes my spirit is weak.

A little bit of Turf War

26th August 2016 – 7.00 am

More Turf War! The Splattershot Jr for me this time, with my natty new hat. I'm looking pretty fresh, this is going to be a good battle.

I ink turf to ink turf, but also to charge my Special. Once charged, it's up to the top to engage the pink team. I pop my Bubbler in anticipation, which causes a threatened reaction in an inkling. He nearly evades, me, becuase I'm not that good, but I get my splat in the end, following up with some good evasion and follow-up of my own against the charger.

More ink to be turfed, another Bubbler charged and popped, but rather than chase an inkling I may not catch I use my invulnerability to ink more turf. Seems about right in Turf War.

I really like Flounder Heights as a map, and always want to make best use of all the levels and walls. And sometimes make use of them when it isn't the best option. Either way, I have a load of fun.

Doing better in Splat Zones

25th August 2016 – 7.00 pm

Back for more Splat Zones. Let's see if all that time spent on Hammerhead Bridge in the recent Splatfest pays off.

I don't have to get on top of the Splat Zones with my Splatterscope, and can hang back and still ink some turf. I am helped, of course, by my squidmates doing a sterling job too.

Splatting the Splat Bomb Rush inkling was handy, although his bombs were exploding up in to my feet at the time. I could have been more careful.

Making a pool of blue ink to recharge in is cute, but perhaps a little obvious? No one found me, so it was fine that time.

My own Splat Bomb Rush is handy, both for inking the Splat Zones, and keeping the yellow inklings away from me.

All in all, a good battle for me and the team. But look at the 17-4 score of the Octoshot Replica! Maybe someone was carrying the team a little.

A quick battle of Turf War

25th August 2016 – 7.00 am

Let's have a game of Turf War. I'll stick with the Splatterscope, because why not?

Of course, because it's Turf War, the focus is on inking turf, so instead of rushing to the centre of the map, and any objective there, I start by inking turf. Good tactic!

I get enough ink turfed to charge my Special, so I squid my way up the side of the building and start lobbing Splat Bombs everywhere. Two splats from inklings nice and close together. Two of the three I getin the battle, in fact.

A lack of splats isn't a bad result, though, as I get the second-highest score for ink turfed on our team. I stay out of trouble, for the most part, and keep the turf green. That'll do.

Rusty start to Splat Zones

24th August 2016 – 7.00 pm

Back in A+! Let's hope I don't get petulant and whiny because I get splatted within 10 seconds of the start of the first battle in the evening. I'm probably just a bit rusty.

I'm going with the Dual Squelcher today, as its range should come in handy for the Splat Zones, as should its Echolocator. That is, if I get a chance to shoot ink at the Splat Zones. That Inkzooka didn't hit me! Then again, they never seem to.

As is often the case, I forget about my range advantage and rush in to close-quarter encounters. Bad Tiger Ears, do you ever learn? Sometimes! Like when I manage to squid up to the Inkzooka and splat him. Or maybe that's luck. But good luck!

At least I get a bunch of splats by the end of the battle, rather than just getting splatted a whole lot myself.

Fouling up my chance to drop out of S Rank in Rainmaker

24th August 2016 – 7.00 am

I'm not adapting to S Rank well at all. I am kinda hoping to lose a whole bunch of battles and drop out of the rank. Although I honestly don't want to throw the battles, I'm not about to make myself ill trying to fit in somewhere I don't belong. Rather than trying to force something to work, I'll play what I know and try to simplify.

I stick with the Splatterscope for now, not believing I'll do well against my S-Rank opponents, but at least I know how to handle the weapon a little. I'm actually quite pleased that I splat my opposite inkling with the Splatterscope when he's not looking, particularly after a few egregious misses.

And as much as I would rather drop out of S Rank, I can't help myself in grabbing the Rainmaker when it's there for the taking. It's the perfect time too, with the other team pushed back and my squidmates in support. A bit of fancy footwork and some inking gets me almost to the goal, although I have to admit that finding that extra inkable block to jump up and over confuses me for a second. I'm not entirely sure where the podium is, not that it matters.

I also like snapping off some quick shots at the initial Rainmaker carrier to splat him, getting some good Splat Bomb Rushes off for multiple splats, and not ending up feeling completely hopeless. That's almost worth staying up for a few battles longer.
