Holding the Resort in Hoverboard Splatfest

27th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

The Tri-slosher isn't as straightforward to use as a shooter in Turf War, but I'm happy to stick with it for now. Let's see how it does on Mahi-Mahi resort.

I take my normal route around the back, but taking a little longer to charge up the Bubbler, and come up on the charger undetected. Splat goes one charger.

I move around the back and ink some turf, until two lasers seek me. Pop goes the Bubbler, and splat goes the charger ahead of hme. The one above just takes one hit, before squidding away. Away to line up the Killer Wail. I can't avoid that in time.

A bit of a dance on a platform is not a winning position against a charger a bit later, though. That doesn't deter me from going back, as our team remains in a strong position. I get another splat, never mind that I use the Bubbler to get it, and keep our position strong with more ink sloshed around.

I push my luck a little at the end. With the orange team pushed right back, I should try to get to that part of the map, past their base, and turn my back on them. Silly billy me. But, still, a good victory for us.

Bubble in to water in Hoverboard Splatfest

27th September 2016 – 7.00 am

Let's put the Splatterscope away. I had a good run, but it would do me good to try more weapons. The Splattershot Jr often works well for me, and should translate from Ranked to Turf War.

I get a good start, inking lots of turf, and when my Bubbler has charged I make my way towards the opponents, who are also Hoverboarders for this battle. I pop the Bubbler when under threat, and then fail to squid away from a longer-range weapon in time.

My next Bubbler use is not much better. Sure, the other inkling gets splatted, but by jumping in to water, and I make the mistake of failing the same jump and following him.

Thankfully, I manage to pop my Bubbler, splat an inkling, and stay unsplatted myself at one point. I can use this weapon after all! And we get the victory, so it's all good.

Messy Mahi-Mahi Resort in Hoverboard Splatfest

26th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

The last Mahi-Mahi Resort battle with the Splatterscope went really smoothly. I aim to have a similar experience this time. But, of course, that's not really up to me.

I kinda get embroiled in the turf war more sooner, down to my own desire to be mobile. That shot on the jumping inkling is just brilliant, I think. I splat another inkling on that perch, and Splat Bomb Rush impending doom from a Dynamo Roller.

It's not all fun and games, though, as I get a bit too close to the action and completely engulfed in orage ink. At least I manage not to jump in to the water this time, pulling out of a failed attempt to get to another platform. That lands me next to an Inkstorm brewing, where there is only just enough turf for me to avoid it. That was close.

In the end, I feel it was a good battle, and an enjoyable one, even if we get pipped to the victory by the jetpacks.

Relaxing at the resort in Hoverboard Splatfest

26th September 2016 – 7.00 am

I'll just hang back and take it easy on Mahi-Mahi Resort, much like on Saltspray Rig. I don't really have the vantage point here as I do on the Rig, but I shouldn't feel pressured in to venturing far from our base.

I ink some turf, then try to deal with some incursion threats. I get a splat on an inkling I didn't think was in range, but that's just a bonus, then hit a squid mid-jump, which is more skill than I usually display. Back to normal as I go for a swim, though.

As the water level drops, I get bolder, mostly looking for mre turf to ink, but really because I am feeling positive. I get a couple of good splats too!

Finally I am splatted back, thanks to the orange inklings and their Bubblers. Fair play to them! It's been a good battle.

Slightly better aim in Hoverboard Splatfest

25th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

Saltpray Rig again, with the Splatterscope. I will try to keep to the higher ground and keep our turf inked. I will also try to splat more inklings, and not simply miss them again and again.

It's a good start, with a nice stationary traget for me to aim at, and a compliant Roller to wander in to my Splat Bomb. And the jetpac team are doing a good job with infiltrating our territory, keeping my inking duties busy.

That Dual Sqeulcher is doing a good job of suppressing me. Or maybe I am doing a good job of keeping mobile under the pressure. I'm not doing a great job of splating him, but also not a poor one either.

So boosted am I at my survival that I head off from our base vantage point to ink turf further from home. Look at me, being so brave with ten seconds to go!

Poor aim in Hoverboard Splatfest

25th September 2016 – 7.00 am

Using a shooter on Saltspray Rig sees me make a beeline for the higher ground, trying to hold it. Using a charger, on the other hand, makes me think I can be of more use holding the lower turf, and from the comfort of our base level.

I can cover plenty of turf, ink over any opponent incursions, and hopefully keep the lower part of the rig covered.

The Inkbrush makes a bit of a fool of my aiming, but that's kinda the point, so I shouldn't feel bad about that. And when he's gone, it looks like I have little more to do, so I move up. That gets me more ink to turf, but puts me under more threat.

When I am inevitably splatted, I go back to the first plan, which really needs some attention again. And again the Inkbrush evades me, but this time form mostly standing still. How embarrassing.

At least I keep the turf mostly covered in teal ink, which is the ultimate goal. And I pick the right spot of orange ink that the Inkbrush rests in. That'll do.

Mahi-Mahi mayhem in Hoverboard Splatfest

24th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

There are good perches for competent chargers in Mahi-Mahi Resort. I think I should stick to inking turf. My failure to splat the Slosher coming over the block just confirms that notion.

At least the turf is open enough to allow me lots of good sight-lines to ink turf, even if I have to stay on the lower ground for the most part.

So close to being ambushed by that Roller! I dunno how I got so lucky. And there's enough teal turf that I am spurred on towards the opponent base. There's a mini-convoy of Rollers, which I disrupt, but a partial charge doesn't get the opposition Splatterscope.

She evades my attention, and my Splat Bomb Rush, and gets enough ink turfed to splat me and a squidmate with her Killer Wail. Good job, inkling.

One more splat on a Roller, approaching fast, feels good, but the feeling soon fades as the Slosher splats me back. But my plan to ink turf looks to have worked well enough.

Splat Bombin' in Hoverboard Splatfest

24th September 2016 – 7.00 am

The Splatterscope is a great weapon on Moray Towers in the right tentacles. Luckily, for those of us without the right tentacles, we can always fall back on the Splat Bombs, and the Rush Special.

I'm actually impressed that my first two splats are from aiming the Splatterscope, although maybe I shouldn't be. That's kinda the point of the weapon. The second two are from Splat Bombs.

Quite how I survive the blast from the orange Splat Bomb I don't know. But as it pushes me off the ledge, I go for a wander. Not my best idea, but far from my worst too.

After facing my nemsis, the Bubbler, I spy an inking hiding in the ink, and splat him a little too casually. Moving on gets me another aimed splat, which is great! Maybe I can use the weapon a little after all.

Watch the skies in Hoverboard Splatfest

23rd September 2016 – 7.00 pm

Not a great battle for me. That inkling is not going to approach when I'm on my perch, and I miss him when he jumps. And my Splat Bomb throws are a bit feeble. And I am lacking just that little bit of range when I see an Inkstrike being launched. Bleh.

I become more progressive in an attempt to feel useful, and get a decent foothold on the other side of the tower. Maybe that perks me up enough to get a great splat of the inkling coming down! But I miss the Roller heading towards me. Probably not much I could have done about that, except follow my Roller squidmate's lead and jump away.

And sorry, fellow charger, but I had turf to ink. I probably should have partied for a few seconds with him, all the same.

The only other moment worth mentioning comes right a tthe culmination of the battle. I manage to stop myself jumping in to the middle of a Killer Wail, splat the approaching inkling, and avoid a Roller splat whilst splatting the Roller. Great finish, mediocre battle.

Trying to evade in Hoverboard Splatfest

23rd September 2016 – 7.00 am

We were two chargers and two Rollers. Not the best combination, but it worked a bit. One Roller drops out, and we get a shooter as a replacement. That feels like it should be better.

I have an opposite number, it seems. A Splatterscope on the orange team who is out to get me, like I am out to get her. The opening salvo is almost like looking in a mirror, it's uncanny. We both survive.

It looks like the Slosher is a bigger threat to me, as I suppose it should be. I really need to keep out of its way. But the battle probably turns after just over a minute, when that puff of orange mist suggests the Jetpack team lose an inkling permanently.

Let's hope we still have a good battle. I tussle with the Splatterscope again, and again it's the Slosher that deals with me. After that, it looks like a better idea to ink some turf on our side of the map, as it is quite bare. And then back to the Splatterscope, who evades me, my Splat Bomb Rush, and splats me.

And so does the Slosher, after my not-quite-full charge doesn't splat her. It was a good battle after all, and they did much better than us, considering.
