Too ruthless Splatfest Ninja

3rd June 2016 – 5.09 pm

That inkling with the Splash Wall is ruthless. I don't think I agree with his methods, however effective they are, but I also think the other side could have got out of their base more easily than they made it look.

I leave him to it for the most part, opting to ink turf instead, which also lets me catch the occasional escapee, and whoever super-jumps to them.

And then I go back to inflict more pain. That's not nice of me. It's a convincing win in the end, but I deserved that rolling for my part in the battle.

Lag can eat itself in Splatfest Ninja

I suppose I should have left those Dynamo Rollers alone, particularly after my Bubbler expired. But I'm not always that smart.

What's more annoying is the apparent lag when engaging other inklings. Just how many hits are needed to splat them?!

I can only think its lag, and not full defensive gear, but there are no other apparent signs, like ink not appearing. Either way, a score of 1253p without the bonus is pretty good, but not good enough to win.

Hit and miss in Splatfest Ninja

Sometimes I hit, sometimes I miss. In this Splatfest battle on Ancho-V Games, I hit fairly often, but my misses are quite embarrassing. Not hitting a stationary target, twice, is pretty poor.

Dropping down when activating my Splat Bomb Rush was poorly timed, but the double tap to one of the inklings was fun, as was the mutual splatting with the Inkzooka (although it looks like I didn't get the splat for that one).

A fun battle overall!

Difficult first game as a Splatfest Ninja

2nd June 2016 – 5.15 pm

Another Splatfest! Let's blast through the battles. To ease myself in to the Ninja vs Barbarian Splatfest, I take my old favourite in to battle, the Splash-o-Matic.

I adopt my old techniques too. Half sneaking around the side routes, half running headlong in to trouble. I do try to be a ninja sometimes, and at least use my full arsenall to my benefit.

For a first game in the evening, I do okay. I should improve, though, and I will probably change to different weapons just to mix things up.

Slaughtered as a Splatfest Ninja

Another battle with the Splash-o-Matic saw Ninja battle Ninja, and a squid party in my team ensure the other side win. I just want to get some sea snails. Never mind. As I quit that team, I take the opportunity to change weapon. Now to try the Splatterscope for a bit. Have you ever tried out any gambling game? This website has the best.

I would say my aim is rusty, but it's probably always like this. I miss my first two shots, which are pretty easy, and fluke the third, when I can't even see the squid. But a splat is a splat.

I try to stay mobile rather than plant myself on a perch, which is encouraged by my Splat Bomb Rushes, and then helped by the extra turf we gain.

I'm not always on top of the situation, but I think I put a good show on, and cover plenty of turf for a charger. It just ultimately isn't enough.

Winning a pointless Splatfest Ninja

Changing my weapon again, I'm opting for the Splattershot Jr, with its handy Bubbler. It may be better if it had a defence against lag, though. It's pretty vicious at the start of the battle.

The connection sets itself soon enough, and I get down to inking turf and splatting opponents. As intended, the Bubbler comes in to its own, saving me from an Inkzooka blast and a Splatling, which is very welcome.

If only this weren't Ninja vs Ninja, I might be happier with the result.

Blundering back'n'forth in Rainmaker

1st June 2016 – 5.53 pm

I have a great start to this Rainmaker battle, flushing out some inklings, getting the upper hand on an E-litre 3K user who's Burst Bomb Rushing towards me. I think I get a bit cocky after that.

It seems that the Rainmaker has a longer range than the Splatterscope. Good to know. The Inkzooka I already knew about, but I get a repeat lesson anyway.

I may still have trouble picking up the Rainmaker on occasion, but I'm getting quicker at noticing when I make that mistake, and drop back in to a support role.

Acting as a distraction for the E-litre 3K also works well to help a squidmate take the lead.

Somehow turning it around on Rainmaker

31st May 2016 – 5.10 pm

E-litre 3Ks, huh? What can you do? Get in to pointless duels with them, apparently.

Playing the support role looks to be a good idea, as the other side are keen to keep the turf purple, making their pushes more quick and effective. But one of them isn't expecting me to be around. To be fair, the others end up not really caring, as I'm not being terribly effective with my aim again.

At least I use my Splat Bomb Rush to good effect at the end. After our opponents try to deny us access to the Rainmaker, they rush around the wrong way and a barrage of Splat Bombs gives my squidmates the opportunity to deliver the Rainmaker.

Let's have another short battle: Dunking a disconnect on Bluefin Depot Rainmaker

Squidding through that rail is a good move. I hope no one saw that.

There's some weird glitching from the Octobrush inkling, which gives me pause for thought, until he disappears in a puff of smoke.

With the other side one inkling down, I immediately think that this is a battle we ought to win. I become more bold with this thought, grabbing the Rainmaker and moving up to the first platform.

A bit of sense tells me to stop as I see blue ink chase my tentacles, and I hide and blast Rainmaker shots whilst my squidmates catch up with me.

A Bubbler keeps them safe, as a wall keeps me safe. The opposition is splatted, my squidmates are by my side, and I make a rare dunking on the Bluefin Depot podium. Woomy!

Muddling around in Rainmaker

30th May 2016 – 5.38 pm

Sometimes, I'm not entirely sure I know what I'm doing. Of course, the start of any Ranked battle is fairly formulaic, and so it goes for this Rainmaker on Urchin Underpass. I even get a nice Splat Bomb splat and Splatterscope double. After that, I'm just making it up as I go along.

I'm not entirely sure how I didn't pick up the Rainmaker around the 2' mark, but I also don't know how I keep missing my Splatterscope easy splats. Maybe it's the first-game-of-the-night jitters.

Missing another easy splat from a super-jump is just embarrassing, more so from the Roller then splatting me for my mistake. Pretend that didn't happen, though.

Otherwise, I try to keep to the support role, keeping the ink green and not blue, and at least pretending to pose a threat to the other inklings.

Being sneaky in Splat Zones

29th May 2016 – 5.17 pm

Or, at least, trying to be sneaky. It's not easy when your ink gives away your entrance, as the Kelp Splat Charger inkling notices. I go back to exact my weak revenge, before trying a different route.

A major bit of newb fever hits me for a bit, as I flounder, miss jumps, and just get a bit lost. Thankfully, I get over it and start to be a little bit cunning.

Hopefully this will put me in good stead for being a Ninja in the upcoming Splat Fest.

Decent Splat Zones

28th May 2016 – 5.36 pm

The Splatterscope is fun, the Splattershot Jr was good, but I'm switching it up again to battle with the Dual Squelcher for a bit, still in Splat Zones.

I take care to mind my range, and my surroundings, but can't quite stop a two-pronged attack at the start of the battle.

This being Port Mackerel, naturally there are Splash Walls everywhere, causing much amusement. I quite like where I squid just about under one, get hit by it from behind, and get pushed in to a mutual splatting.

The battle goes well. Good squidmates have my back, I have theirs, and we manage to take control of the Splat Zones, and pretty much keep control.

Splat Zones not going in to overtime

27th May 2016 – 5.24 pm

Switching around the weapons, just for variety, I'm going with the Splattershot Jr in to Splat Zones.

I like being mobile and not being predictable, so it's kinda funny when I try a fancy squid/jump/turn to prevent being splatted, only to have a different inkling splat me from behind anyway. Or trying to blindside a Slosher, only to see it turn in to a Kraken.

It's also amusing to try to be sneaky and stealthy, yet still have the habit of charging straight ahead in to many inkfights. But I'm wearing some defence gear, to see if that mitigates my foolhardiness a little. It probably wouldn't mitigate dropping in to a Killer Wail whilst looking at the gamepad.

I don't know why the battle doesn't run in to overtime, not really understanding how the battle is scored, but it doesn't really matter anyway. It's all good fun!

Overcome with ink in Splat Zones

26th May 2016 – 5.50 pm

A muddled start, some competent play to get a fair lead, and then purple ink goes everywhere.

It's a fun, frantic battle, and I am impressed with my agile evasion of that Seeker, as well as the occasional realistion that I should be inking the Splat Zone rather than hunting inklings.

That purple inkling at the start was lucky with his Kraken. My Splat Bomb was well-aimed.

Let's have a positive battle today as well: Straightforward Splat Zones

100 to 0 without a break. That's a good game of Splat Zones. At least, for us it is. It must have felt frustrating for the other team.

The Echolocator can be quite handy, particularly in more cluttered environments. It helps me prevent getting flanked, and also prevents me getting splatted, if I hadn't been ganged up on.

You may note that my A+ rank doesn't reflect the previous winning games. The losses between these are not really worth watching, so I'm not going to be hitting S rank soon. But maybe I won't drop back down to A either.

A less passive approach to Port Mackerel Splat Zones

25th May 2016 – 5.19 pm

Port Mackerel Splat Zones with the Splatterscope has seen me holing up on the raised platform over the first Splat Zone, and keeping that zone secure. But it seems that A+ battles demand a more active approach to defence, one that involves a little more aggression.

I can see why, too. I get off my perch and instead of simply keeping the Splat Zone covered, which I also don't quite manage to do cleanly, but try to control the corridors too. That really helps prevent unwanted opposition movement.

I should adopt these tactics more often, not least because I clearly need more practice. It also looks to be quite effective when done properly.
