Dominating Moray Towers in Tower Control

12th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

Let's take the battle to the opposition! I'm not sitting on that tower in the middle of Moray Towers whilst an E-litre 3K hovers over me. I'm not even going to sneak up on him the normal way. I'm going the long way around.

It kinda works. A fellow inkling makes an impressive manoeuvre to flush out the E-litre 3K, which pushes him in to my sloshing. Woomy! We share a splat on an incoming super-jumping inkling, and move on.

That E-litre 3K splat is my only splat of the battle. That's surprising partly because I get good hits on a Slosher, but it looks like she jumps to her doom a couple of times to avoid me, and partly because we win the battle so quickly and efficiently.

I have some good squidmates!

Outmatched in Tower Control

12th September 2016 – 7.00 am

Moray Towers is one of the maps, which means I want to give my Splatterscope an outing. It's a positive start, with an early splat a bit too typical of a cheesy charger, but the situation goes downhill quickly, as it only can do on Moray Towers.

The opposite team makes a coordinated push on our towers, and succeeds in splatting us soundly. But their advancing of the tower just gives me a nice target to aim for. That bags me a couple of splats, before I fail to make a jump to escape a splatting. Not much of a concession.

I find myself covering the other team's ink more than anything, which is at least contributing to our efforts, albeit a bit negatively. At least I don't completely embarrass myself. Apart from the several falls to my splatty doom.

Just goin' for the E-litre in Rainmaker

11th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

The plan to concentrate on the E-litre 3K worked so well in the previous battle (in a way) that I have the same plan in this battle.

A good E-litre really can disrupt a Rainmaker battle, but so can being distracted by trying to splat an E-litre 3K, as I demonstrate.

The E-litre is actually on the perch this time, and as he doesn't expect me to rush him, I distract him and splat him. I turn around an ink a bit, then consider that, because I am so close, it would be a good idea to splat him again. So I do.

Meanwhile, his squidmates have taken the Rainmaker almost to the podium. Oops. At least my position allows me to come from behind and surprise splat a couple of them.

We take the Rainmaker ourselves (and not me, which I thought I had), and go along the route I just inked, bagging another cuple of splats for me, but running in to respawed inklings.

Back to them, and the Rainmaker is just inking and splatting from up high, which is rude. But going up to flush him out splats me the E-litre 3K again, so that's cool.

After the good start by the blue team, we're pretty much on the back foot for the rest of the battle. We keep on going though, as there is always a chance of sneaking a victory. And I can try to get more E-litre 3K notches on my Tri-slosher.

Did I help? Flounder Heights Rainmaker

11th September 2016 – 7.00 am

There's an E-litre 3K on the other team. That could pose a problem for us if he sets up on the standard Flounder Heights perch.

My plan is to flush him out and give my squidmates a chance to get the Rainmaker anywhere near the goal.

I think my plan works. Sure, the E-litre 3K is not where I think he is, and I don't get to splat him, or break the Rainmaker's shield, or carry the Rainmaker.

But a squidmate dunks the Rainmaker in record time. Woomy?

Decent start, poor end to Rainmaker

10th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

The Splatterscope isn't working out too well for me in the other map, Flounders Heights, so I sawp to the Tr-slosher, which should work better there. Of course, Moray Towers still pops up, but there are lots of heights to rain ink down from too.

What a nifty start to the battle for me, dashing around the back and up the ramp to splat the opposition. So good, in fact, that I do it a second time, along a different route.

I continue my success with splatting the Rainmaker, and holding our turf, which ends up with us taking the lead. But after that, I go off the boil a bit.

It doesn't help that my hiding place at 4'54" inexplicably gets coverted to purple ink to reveal me, but never mind, I suppose, even if it indirectly causes us to lose the lead. Maybe we can get it back in extra time.

Almost contributing to Rainmaker

10th September 2016 – 7.00 am

No E-litre 3K opposing me on Moray Towers this battle. But does that just put more pressure on me to keep the opposition splatted? Probably, at least to me. Such a shame, then, that I keep missing my shots, before getting blindsided by a Roller of all weapons.

Thankfully, I'm not completely hopeless. My aim still needs improvement, but only when going for inklings. I can cover turf quite nicely, which still helps in Rainmaker.

It's not going to help that we go one inkling down with two minutes to go. Nor is jumping to a platform just as a Killer Wail is aimed there, with nowhere to go.

But our team takes the lead! Good job, squidmates. It even spurs me on to pressing high up the Towers, where I may get chased, but unsuccessfully, and that may even distract the inklings from the objective a bit. Or maybe I am giving myself too much credit.

Either way, my team pulls out a pretty good victory.

Out-charged in Moray Towers Rainmaker

9th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

Moray Towers! That means I want my Splatterscope, and other inklings will want their chargers too. Surprisingly, only one other charger is in the battle, but she's holding an E-litre 3K. I'll be out-ranged easily, so I have to be smart. That's me buggered.

Still, the first splat is mutual, which I'm mostly pleased about. At least I'm not cheesing up the Towers with strength upgrades.

I make a brief error in trying to carry the Rainmaker, but the green team relieves me of that burden. I am also then shown how not to use the Splatterscope, by missing them and getting crushed by a Roller.

At least reviewing the video lets me see the helicopter on the helipad and take off at the 2-minute mark, which is probably more interesting than my continuing to miss inklings a foot away from me. Thank goodness for the Rainmaker in this case, as it lets me splat someone from a distance.

A bit of good fortune follows me for a minute, which raises my spirits. Getting splatted after that lets me help ink over the green, to help cement the excellent lead my squidmates got. I don't think it was needed in the end, but that's okay. And me and the E-litre got the same score.

How did we claim the Splat Zones?

9th September 2016 – 7.00 am

The gear balance update is here, so it's time to put on some shades for the last-ditch effort. I reckon the other team will nearly always have their counter below 30, so I'll get some good use out of them.

The new Bomb Sniffer effect seems good too. I liked the old version too, so this is just a good excuse to wear a different version of the shoes.

With the new clothes comes a new weapon choice, the Slosher Deco. This is more a reaction to Port Mackerel being one of the two maps, and the Ranked mode being Splat Zones. The Slosher should be able to spread ink around, and the Splash Wall should help cordoning off the corridors.

Of course, I find myself mostly in Walleye Warehouse, and with bad aim for the Splash Wall, but never mind. It's also been an age since I've used the Kraken, and the first time it pops I forget how to jump. That's embarrassing.

We're also dominated for the first part of the battle. I think this is going to be another frustrating evening (in fact, it is, and this is the only battle I care to publish), but somehow my team turns the situation around.

I like to think my new shades helped, or my trying different routes and tactics. But I think it was pretty much just my squidmates who got the victory.

Last-minute effort in Tower Control

8th September 2016 – 7.00 pm

I'm sticking with the Tri-slosher. I've used it before mostly for riding the tower and raining ink down from there. But recently I've used it to be more aggressive in distracting and splatting the opposition, to mixed effect. I like it as a weapon, though, which is the main thing.

I don't do too well at the start of this battle. I harry a charger, which is good, but don't really have much effect. I see another ghostly brush, which is unsettling, and get that charger when a squidmate's Killer Wail pushes her back. But I forget my Bubbler again, and super-jump or move in to harm's way a little often.

At least our team takes the lead. Not a massive lead, but hopefully enough. It seems easier to defend on Bluefin Depot than attack, because the defenders have the height advantage, but we still lose that lead we have. Now we have to attack again.

We can attack again if we ever get good control of the tower. The yellow team press us hard, keeping the tower on our side of the map, and there is not much time left. But with 45 seconds left, the tower is moving in to yellow territory, and I get lucky with a double-splat that hopefully contributes to my squidmates regaining the lead.

It looks like it's all over, but the yellow team get the tower back with 3 seconds to go, and ride it right back to where they were, aggressively getting as many inklings as they can on the tower. Maybe our victory is not quite as assured as I think.

Just too late in Tower Control

8th September 2016 – 7.00 am

Oh dear, an E-litre 3K on the other team. This will pose problems for me, and all of us really. I should try to do something about her. So that's my initial goal.

I get a bit lucky in sneaking under her radar to get up the side, and although she's waiting for my arrival behind her, as any good charger would be, I manage to chuck ink over her before I am in her sights. I think I can be happy with this battle just for that, to be honest.

I try to remember my Bubbler again, and was going to use it as I ride the tower closer to the blue goal, but the .96 Gal splats me too quick for me to react. It's all a bit downhill from there for a bit. I mis-time a jump and go for a swim, and have my Tri-slosher let me down by not getting ink over the tower in time. It's not my bucket's fault, though, the tower can be taller than I remember.

Some last-minute nifty manoeuvring gets the E-litre splatted, and her buddy, as I also remember my Bubbler, but our final push just isn't quite enough to regain us the lead.
